Brief biography of Dr. Orest Ranum

Dr. Ranum, Professor Emeritus of French history at Johns Hopkins University, has spoken to the Society on several occasions, and has been our adviser for the Essay Contest. Each time he speaks our members ask him to come back again.

Not only is he a favorite speaker, but Dr. Ranum has written many books, articles, and reviews on French topics. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, he has been a professor at Johns Hopkins since 1970. He was a Fulbright Fellow at the Sorbonne, a Fulbright Teaching Fellow at the University of Strasbourg, a Guggenheim Fellow and a Visiting Fellow at the Princeton Institute for Advanced Study.

Dr. and Mrs. Ranum, also a frequent society guest, spend every summer in France, where he has also led Johns Hopkins tours. Mrs. Ranum is a member of the New Paltz Historical Society, where she has Huguenot ancestors.
